August is Clear the Shelters in Coachella Valley

August is Clear the Shelters in Coachella Valley! Are you looking for a furry friend and not sure where you can find the new love of your life? Two local animal shelters are participating in the national “Clear the Shelters” program giving you several reasons you should adopt this month.

FREE PET ADOPTIONS

Riverside County Department of Animal Services is offering no-fee pet adoptions throughout August, celebrating its partnership with NBC4 and Telemundo 52’s Clear the Shelters campaign.

The Shelters in Riverside County (located in Blythe, Jurupa Valley, and Thousand Palms) are participating in the annual campaign with 70 other Southern California shelters and nonprofit rescue organizations – and more than 1,000 nationwide. (Riverside County Department of Animal Services)

Palm Springs Animal Shelter – In the spirit of Clear the Shelters, Palm Springs Animal Shelter will offer NO-FEE ADOPTIONS starting tomorrow, August 10th, through the end of the month. Palm Springs Animal Shelter will be sharing information about how you can get involved here on our page, and all of this leads up to the main Clear the Shelters adoption event August 26-28!

Clear the Shelters is a great way for you to help Palm Springs Animal Shelter. As you know, we are in a difficult OVER-CAPACITY situation and WE NEED YOUR HELP! Please support our shelter in any way you can: Adopt, Donate, Foster, Volunteer. Everything helps our little shelter in the California Desert fulfill its mission of saving lives! With your help, we will CLEAR THE SHELTER this month! (Palm Springs Animal Shelter)

Pets are good for your health and mental health. According to HealthGuide.org, studies have shown that:

  • Pet owners are less likely to suffer from depression than those without pets.
  • People with pets have lower blood pressure in stressful situations than those without pets. One study even found that when people with borderline hypertension adopted dogs from a shelter, their blood pressure declined significantly within five months.
  • Playing with a dog, cat, or other pet can elevate levels of serotonin and dopamine, which calm and relax.
  • Pet owners have lower triglyceride and cholesterol levels (indicators of heart disease) than those without pets.
  • Heart attack patients with pets survive longer than those without.
  • Pet owners over age 65 make 30 percent fewer visits to their doctors than those without pets.

Why wait? (unless it’s to participate in the main Clear the Shelter Adoption Event on August 26 – 28th)
