Video doorbells like Ring and Nest became popular around 2020 and since then technology has improved and newer models have more “bells and whistles” than the doorbells from only a couple of years ago.

Do you have a current working doorbell? If so, you may want to opt for a Video doorbell that connects to your existing doorbell wiring. This saves from having to replace batteries and has a consistent power source. If you either don’t have a working doorbell or a doorbell for that matter, a battery-operated video doorbell will certainly serve your needs.
How much do you want to spend?
A simple video doorbell will run around $50 for the doorbell itself. However, there could be an annual subscription should you want the videos to last for longer than the devise itself allows. This could run about the same price as the doorbell and is renewed annually.
More elaborate video doorbells have motion detectors with wider motion zones, higher quality cameras, and sensitivity adjustments.
Both styles of video doorbells offer cloud or local storage, and as mentioned above, cloud storage will be an additional fee.
If you already have many smart-home features in your home, your video doorbell will sync with them as well.
